In 2006 and 2007 the British Embassy, in partnership with the British Council, has continued to pursue the Latgale support strategy, which it initiated in 2004-2005.

Through the strategy, the UK aims to promote co-operation between UK partners and Latgale in business, education and science and to contribute to economic prosperity and social cohesion in Latgale. The Embassy has a liaison officer in Daugavpils who was appointed in 2004, and Embassy staff regularly visit Daugavpils and other parts of Latgale.
