Making a complaint

We will investigate the complaint fully.

You have a right to expect prompt and courteous service.  If you are unhappy with the service you have received from the British Embassy in Riga, or you feel that you have been treated unfairly or inappropriately, you can make a written complaint to us as follows:

In all instances you are asked to provide your name, address and telephone number, a clear description of your complaint and as much detail of names, dates, places and other background as possible. If your complaint is related to a visa service, please include the type/date of application and any reference number(s).

  • All complaints will be reviewed and you will receive an acknowledgment of receipt of the complaint within 3 days and a reply within 20 working days from the date we receive your complaint in our office.
  • We will investigate the complaint fully. The person who investigates the complaint should not be directly connected to the case or complaint and will usually be senior to any officer who a complaint has been made against.
  • We will record and examine complaints, and use the information to improve the service we provide.

If you have made your complaint through your MP and are still not happy with the reply that we have given, you can contact the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
